Holidays are a great time to stock up on your kids favorite things! But where do you start!? If you are looking for some guidance to find some FUN and FUNctional toys this holiday season check out some OT approved toys and games: (As always: speak with your child’s therapist to get suggestions regarding their specific needs and preferences!)

Visual perceptual skills are the brain’s ability to make sense of what the eyes see:   

Under 3: Simple sorting or puzzles are great.

Age 3-5: Tanograms; or Matching games:

  5+: Buildzi, “How to Draw” or Spot it!

Fine motor skills refer to the coordination between your child’s small muscles, like those in their hands, wrists and fingers in coordination with their eyes: 

Under 3: Piggy bank toy or shape sorter

 3-5: Squiggs, Tweezer games:

5+: Legos, bracelet kits/clay beads

Sensory Processing is the effective registration and interpretation of information from the environment-including one’s body. 

Under 3: climb and crawl activity playset

3-5: Body sock, Swing for doorway

5+: Crash pad, indoor doorway gym
